Abstract

This study aimed to quantify human being papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine Twitter messaging handling homosexual, bisexual and other males who have intercourse with guys (GB+MSM) and describes messaging by vaccine belief (attitudes towards vaccine) and faculties (topic of messaging). Between August 2014 and July 2015, we accumulated 193 379 HPV-related tweets and classified them by vaccine sentiment and traits. We analysed a subsample of tweets containing the terms ‘gay’, ‘bisexual’ and ‘MSM’ (N = 2306), http://camsloveaholics.com/ and analysed distributions of belief and faculties utilizing chi-square. HPV-related tweets containing GB+MSM terms occupied 1% of our test. The subsample possessed a vaccine sentiment that is largely positive. But, a percentage of ‘gay’ and ‘bisexual’ tweets would not point out the vaccine, and a percentage of ‘gay’ and ‘MSM’ tweets had an adverse belief. Topics varied by GB+MSM term HPV risk texting had been predominant in ‘bisexual’ (25%) tweets, and HPV transmission through sex/promiscuity texting was predominant in ‘gay’ (18%) tweets.
